Disease registries are databases that are designed to measure health outcomes for specific medical conditions and procedures to improve the overall quality of care. Health care measurements can be benchmarked both internationally and among hospitals within Pakistan to identify good practices and encourage learning and development.
Disease registries have played a vital role in improving patient care in hospitals throughout the world. More information about health outcomes measurement can be found at the International Consortium of Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), which is a joint venture between the Harvard Business School, the Karolinska Institute and the Boston Consulting Group.
FHCI hosts disease registries for the following orthopaedic conditions:
Other orthopaedic conditions will be added over time. As registries become more commonplace in Pakistan, FHCI will work with clinicians in other specialties to widen the scope of conditions measured.
Data is captured through a web-based form that clinicians in participating hospital sites will complete using a secure portal to protect patient privacy. Data will then be analysed and shared with participating hospitals and, as appropriate, the general public. Hospitals interested in participating in the orthopaedic registries are encouraged to contact Prof Syed M Awais, Chairman Department of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery and Traumatology (Unit 1) at Mayo Hospital on: awais@kemu.edu.pk

Functional outcomes are measured using the Harris Hip Score, except for patients who were treated for hip fractures. This registry is based on the registry used by the National Joint Registry in the United Kingdom. The Harris Hip Score is based on the template published by orthopaedicscore.com.
